When examining the contents within Friere’s work, I noticed a rather cynical and bitter observation of the “Teacher-Student relationship”: the student simply receives the information while the teacher just drops it on them. However, later on in Friere’s commentary, this quote stood out to me “People teach each other, mediated by the world, by the cognizable objects in which banking education is owned by the teacher”(Freire 4). It made me reflect upon the book, The Illusion Of Life by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, and the teaching methods that Walt Disney would use on his employees back in the 1930s. This quote seems to be a direct application to Friere’s own proposal: “Walt could always show you exactly how the business should be done, but the animator was expected to go further with the idea, to come up with something of his own, some[…]that would make it not only personal but special”(Thomas, Johnston 41).

That book sounds interesting and I find it intriguing how Walt Disney had a strategy of his own to teach his employees! Walt Disney seems like he is directly stating how learners as a collective should try to implement the teachings in their own ways rather than just robotically doing exactly what they are taught, and I really enjoy that viewpoint. This just goes to show not only are we learners in an educational setting, but we are learners in everyday activities like working a job. To prosper in a workplace, you need the want to learn and want to succeed, just like Freire tells us about education.
