Gap Between Theory and Practice

Square

When discussing feminist theory in “Theory as Liberatory Practice”, hooks claims there’s a “gap between theory and practice” which makes it hard for theory about feminism to be discussed by the common public (65). There’s a gap because theorists, along with those who consider which theories are important, think that you should write in a way that is highly sophisticated using difficult language. For feminist theory to flourish and reach the audiences that truly care about the subject, theory doesn’t just need to be written in a way it’s easily understood, but it also needs to engage readers in critical reflection and practice. If personal experience forms the base of feminist theory making, then one needs to focus on reflecting on their experience and share their thoughts with others, so it can reach a more diverse group.
