Female representation in the media

What does feminism actually mean? If it’s supposed to mean that it’s impowering women, then how come those same women are “restrained by the very structures of power through which emancipation is sought”(Butler 5). Isn’t that counterproductive to the goal that feminism is trying to accomplish? If feminism is meant to strengthen women, then how come it still tries to limit women’s political placement in society? What are we trying to teach the young girls of our society? That they can do anything only to find out later that they’re being ironically limited?
