I’m interested in the fact that Hooks describes Theory as the healing for her pain at the start of the chapter. How exactly does one hurt in order for theory to fix it? I would say this “hurt” she is feeling is something that every human can relate to. The desire to understand the unknown is already complicated enough for most people to deal with so they ignore the “hurt”. I think Hooks is onto something here, like a diagnosis for anyone who feels exactly as she does. Except the cure isn’t just enlightenment, the cure is actually searching for it. She also noted the best theorists were children, people who have little to no understanding of things, so they are compelled to search and live a learn to figure them out.
Theory as Healing?

I think we as humans try to make sense of things which we cannot explain. That’s why we have things like theory, philosophy, among other topics that are open to discussion and interpretation. We have a want for communication and mutual understanding for thing we can’t explain, such as emotions, our place in the world, and why books have chapters. We try to make reasoning of everything and ask questions. That is how we form connections with one another, at least that’s my theory.
