I have read bell hooks before in some other classes and I have really enjoyed what I’ve read so far, especially this one. I reread this text again this week and the same thing still stuck out to me, conforming. I am going to just going to talk about that again because it really speaks to me.

I am recognizing this topic of conformity not only in this text, but in so many others. People feel the need to conform to the world around them all the time, even I feel the need to sometimes even though I am very aware of the pressures. bell hooks talks about how she really only had three options as to what job she could do, marry, be a maid, or be a teacher. How is that fair?

This theme is prominent in our world today. People conform to whatever outside pressures seem to “expect” of them. It comes from so many different directions too which makes it even harder to fight. You feel pressure for almost every decision we make which makes those decisions even harder to make. I am going to ask the same question I did in my last post about this text, when so many outside sources are having effects on the decisions we make are we ever really free?

A few weeks ago I had accidentally read the wrong article and made a post on it.
